Service Hours Policies
*All lunch time meetings are posted and mandatory.
*Missing one meeting (unexcused) will result in 2 extra hours of community service; regardless of your hour count.
*Missing two meetings (unexcused) will result in 4 extra hours of community service; regardless of your hour count.
*Missing three meetings will result in possible termination and teacher committee action.
*Signing in and leaving will result in possible termination and teacher committee action.
*Attendance at the March induction ceremony is mandatory for all grades (stated in acceptance letter).
Community Service Medal
*Students earning more than 40 hours of community service during their senior year will be eligible to purchase a NHS medal worn at graduation.
*Students that earn more than 40 hours of community service during their junior year and senior year will be recognized at graduation.
*20 of the hours must be MCHS approved activities (minimum of three different activities).
*Hours must be completed prior to May 15th of the graduating year
*Juniors having completed one year of service will receive a patch at induction ceremony.
Policies for the wearing of NHS collars
*Officers at graduation will wear blue NHS collars.
*All current senior members that have completed their hours will wear cream NHS collars.
Officer Applications
*Officer applications will be made available during the first three weeks of April of the current year.
*Officer applications must be hand delivered to the advisor prior to the due date
*President applicants must be able to take the Independent Study Leadership class during their serving year. Prior to turning in their
application, students must check with their counselor about class availability and their scheduling.

Service Hours Policies
- NHS members are required to accumulate a minimum of 20 service hours per school year (new inductees will complete 6).
- 10 of those required hours may be outside of MCHS activities (church, neighbor assistance, etc…)
- All service hours must be documented and signed on a MCHS approved sheet signed by an adult supervisor or the President
- Service hour sheets must be turned in no later than two weeks after the event to the advisor.
- Only service hours performed during the summer will count towards the current school year.
- Service hours may not be counted if they are an obligation of another organization (ie. Student Council required functions, Interact required functions). Only hours that go above and beyond those obligations can be counted.
- If there is ever any question about the legitimacy of service hours, please contact the adviser for prior approval.
- Seniors inducted into the MCHS NHS in March will still be required to complete their 20 hours of service before graduation.
- Student community service points will be kept in a student folder in the advisors room and hours updated on a log sheet by the Secretary.
- Student folders will always be accessible to the student during lunch or afterschool.
- Students that have signed up for an event and cannot attend, are responsible for finding a replacement.
